Romaine Alwill is the Creative Director of Atelier Alwill, bringing over 25 years of experience in the interior design industry. She spent her early childhood in the Philippines before growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Later, time spent living in Japan with her family for 4 years  deepened her appreciation for craftsmanship, simplicity, organic materials and the quiet but nuanced poetry of design. Before founding Atelier Alwill, Romaine was the Interior Design Editor at Belle magazine, where she honed her eye for storytelling through design.

Today, her work blends considered and integrated architectural spaces, sophisticated palettes expressing a narrative through her interiors.

Sophie’s path into interiors was shaped by real-world experience with years in property and hands-on experience purchasing and renovating homes before moving into design. That grounding gives her a strong practical foundation, where every project begins with an eye for execution and ends in a beautifully resolved finish. Calm, thoughtful, and quietly precise, she approaches each brief with clarity and purpose.

Curious by nature and driven by solutions, Sophie loves untangling the details, streamlining processes, and guiding projects with a steady hand. Collaboration is where she thrives, building relationships with consultants and trades to deliver refined outcomes.

Her design intent is to craft homes that feel timeless, personal, and layered. Foregoing trends, she values natural materials, subtle contrasts, and tactile depth to shape honest and artful spaces. With an innate instinct for sourcing the uniquely crafted and newly discovered, Sophie infuses individuality and soul into every space.
