Director

Romaine Alwill is the Creative Director of Atelier Alwill, bringing over twenty five years of experience in the interior design industry. She spent her early childhood in Asia, before growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and has been influenced always by the Australian coastline and natural beauty of the area. Later, time spent living in Japan with her family for severral years , which deepened her appreciation for carefully considered design, craftsmanship, simplicity, organic materials and the quiet but nuanced aspects of design.
Before founding Atelier Alwill, Romaine lived and worked in London in art and design, and was the Interior Design Editor at Belle magazine for five years, where she honed her eye for storytelling through interiors.
Today, her work blends considered and integrated architectural spaces, sophisticated palettes expressing a narrative through her interiors.

Sophie’s path into interiors was shaped by real-world experience with years in property and hands-on experience purchasing and renovating homes before moving into design. That grounding gives her a strong practical foundation, where every project begins with an eye for execution and ends in a beautifully resolved finish. Calm, thoughtful, and quietly precise, she approaches each brief with clarity and purpose.
Curious by nature and driven by solutions, Sophie loves untangling the details, streamlining processes, and guiding projects with a steady hand. Collaboration is where she thrives, building relationships with consultants and trades to deliver refined outcomes.
Her design intent is to craft homes that feel timeless, personal, and layered. Foregoing trends, she values natural materials, subtle contrasts, and tactile depth to shape honest and artful spaces. With an innate instinct for sourcing the uniquely crafted and newly discovered, Sophie infuses individuality and soul into every space.

With over twenty-five years in the design and construction industry, Marie has collaborated with leading firms in London and Sydney on award-winning projects that have graced the covers of Belle, Vogue Living and Artichoke magazines.
Specialising in high-end residential homes across Australia her design philosophy is rooted in the idea that a home should be a retreat, a place where simplicity and beauty meet function and form. Every detail is considered to make daily living feel effortless, with a focus on natural materials and a seamless connection between indoors and out. A passionate traveller, Marie draws inspiration from cultures around the world, from the refined craftsmanship of Japan to the rich traditions of Egypt, Kenya, Cambodia, and India. Each journey deepens her appreciation for authenticity, traditional building techniques and timeless design.
Balancing her career with family life, Marie feels privileged to help shape homes that reflect her client’s individuality with authenticity and grace. When not designing, she finds joy in her garden, cultivating the same harmony and beauty that inspire her work.

A long-standing member of the Atelier Alwill team, Evie brings over a decade of experience in high-end residential design, with a practice grounded in detail, intuition, and a deeply human approach to interiors.
Now based in the Netherlands as our “Designer at Large,” Evie continues to collaborate with the studio remotely, drawing on Europe’s cultural richness and creative networks to inform her work. Her relocation reflects an exciting evolution in both her own design journey and our studio’s commitment to global inspiration and adaptability.
Alongside her design expertise, Evie brings a strong foundation in procurement with extensive experience in high-end lighting and furniture across Australian and international markets. This underpins a seamless translation between concept and execution, ensuring every detail is considered and refined.

Procurement Manager

Lizzie Irwin is the Procurement Manager at Atelier Alwill and has been a valued member of the team for over five years. With more than 27 years of experience in the interior design industry, Lizzie has worked with several award-winning design practices across Sydney, Perth, and London.
Originally from an IT business background, Lizzie brings a unique combination of analytical precision and creative insight to her role. Having completed numerous projects both independently and in collaboration with other designers, her approach is thorough, thoughtful, and grounded in the belief that great design should add value, tread lightly, and create spaces where people feel completely at ease.
Her extensive experience in global procurement, coupled with her practical mindset, ensures that every logistical detail—from sourcing to delivery—is expertly managed. When not at her desk, Lizzie can often be found on the water or in the saddle. A long-time ocean sailor and equestrian, she spends most weekends outdoors, embracing the elements and finding inspiration in nature.

Her career spans high-level roles in design studios and corporate environments, where she has overseen everything from client experience and team coordination to large-scale project planning and executive support.
Tash’s background in interior design enhances her ability to manage aesthetically driven spaces with industry knowledge. Her commitment to fostering collaborative, well-organised, and high-performing teams makes her a valuable asset in any creative studio setting.
Whether she’s coordinating a multi-million dollar project, planning a team event, or making sure the coffee machine never runs dry, Tash is all about creating an environment where people (and ideas) thrive.
